Commitment

I'd just like to say happy anniversary to myself. I've had this blog exactly a year today. I wonder if I'll get flowers...

What I'll miss about Adelaide

I love countdowns and seeing as though mine is now at 2 weeks (ok, ok give or take 24 hours) I thought I'd share what I'll miss about Adelaide.

- The beep beep guy who walks down Rundle Street yelling 'beep beep.....BEEP....beep' everyday in between 11-1230pm

- Johnny walking down the mall in his tutu and gumboots

- The homeless guy playing the keyboard outside the camera place on Rundle Street (now that's what you call talent)

- The guy who power walks down Rundle Mall with his headphones on yelling out the lyrics to the songs he's listening to

- The homeless alcoholic dude who thought I was Osama Bin Laden and told me to go home while wanting to shove his plastic bags into the cupboards of the shop I used to work in

Umm, maybe I should include some other things that don't include the Adelaide freak set....

- BBQ City (duh)

- Fruchocs/Haighs

- Cibo/Cocolat gelati

Whoops, this is heading to food obsession land. Let me think....

- The city grid system?

I got nothing. It's either food or freaks.

Taking eating to a new level

It's official. I've been going nuts with going away dinners and lunches. I've had 3 days of hardcore dinnering. Now, don't get me wrong, I am not complaining, I am merely wanting to share the level of culinary utopia I have been experiencing.

Friday night: Russell's @ Willunga. BEST SEAFOOD PIZZA EVER. Best Dukkah ever. Actually. I thought I didn't like dukkah but I proved myself wrong when I ran out of bread and was trying to get it to stick to my fingers so I could eat the rest. Plus I ate Meegs' dessert too. Ugh, she gave it to me. What was I suppose to do? It would be so rude not to eat it. But I ate the rest of Leash's dessert too. She didn't give it to me, she left it. It would have been rude of me not to eat it and I'm a really polite person. Plus I've been eating her left overs for years, I have to live up to expectations. Oh yea, and I ate Anna's strawberries.

Saurday night: Good life. BEST DUCK PIZZA EVER. I made a slight mistake ordering the chocolate brownie for dessert. I get put under pressure by these situations. Even though sometimes I don't feel like eating sickly desserts, I always go for them by default. I am drawn to chocolate. It's like a calling.

Sunday night: BBQ City!!!!!!!!!!!!! I took a photo of me standing out the front. I am going to post it on here once Cassie sends it to me. We ate like a pack of wolves. Cassie and Teresa eat like me. Other people at the table are considered competition (unless there is dairy involved and then Teresa is exempt) so we all eat to pace so we don't miss out. Then a crazy suggestion was made to have dessert at an Indian place. So Miss 'I can't eat dairy' ordered our dessert and now I am having trouble breathing because I ate too many variations of Indian balls. Mmmmm, sweet sugary Indian balls....

Ok, maybe this post was a teeny bit in depth about what I ate this weekend...

4 weeks to go

The coutdown is on again. I can hardly believe it. This time in 4 weeks I will almost be in Bangkok en route to London with my Adelaide life stuffed into my backpack. Correction, not totally stuffed cause you know, there are night markets in Thailand...

Agh, this last month is going to go so quickly. I really really should start packing my house stuff up. Ok, no beach tomorrow. No faffing. Well, I am going out for lunch, but after that I am going to be totally focussed like a tiger on organising myself.

I am working on my Heathrow injection already. I keep on having to HAVE TO HAVE things for the last time. For example, I need to eat Cocolat and Cibo gelati AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE before I leave cause who knows when I will get to eat it again. Then I need to keep on eating my tub of Malteasers cause I don't know if they have Malteasters in the UK. And of course, I need to go out to eat as much as possible, cause you know, they don't have food or restaurants in London - HA!

The sweet taste of unemployment

Today was my first day of unemployment. Ok, ok, I'm still getting paid at the moment, but I don't have a job so therefore I can officially consider myself unemployed. So today I woke up at 9:15 and:

- went to the gym
- had breakfast
- met a friend for coffee
- went to the markets (mmmm bought a chinese custard bun and it was still warm and so good)
- went to the beach and read a magazine
- watched a dvd
- made dinner
- went for a walk

Tomorrow I'm hanging out with mum, may go to the beach again and I am also planning to make pasta sauce that simmers for at least 2 hours. Oh yea, and I should probably think about getting my shit together seeing as though I am moving overseas in 4 weeks tomorrow!

Ode to biscotti

Last night I discovered biscotti, and let's just say, I ate about 15 pieces. It was so crunchy and the flakes of almond and hint of white pepper, ah, biscotti goodness. Teresa - you're so gifted. If we were part of the muffia, Jon would be soooo be topped, but first we would rub chili over him to see how sensitive he really is.

On another note, I just ate a slice of mars bar cheesecake. Originally I was going to pass on the cake (probably a first) but of course I didn't. The reason why I was going to pass was because I was given a bucket of malteasers last night. Yes a bucket. AND this is after I didn't think the night would get any better after the biscotti. So I thought I had potentially chocolated myself out after eating more than a few handfuls. Luckily there was still room in the tank this morning.

Finally, it's my last day of work today. I think everyone will find there'll be more food in the kitchen from now on. I gave my gigantic pen away, the last of my rivetas (there's like 2 left in the packet, but hey, a present is a present) and unveiled my last prank. Hmm, going away seems a bit more real now...

It's been 12 days

since my last meal at BBQ City and I am having withdrawals. I think it may be time to rekindle the love.

I come from a family of small bins

This morning as I was trying to stuff carrot peel, the end of a cucumber and the green bits from strawberries into our already full kitchen bin, it reminded me of my family's penchant for purchasing small bins. Ok, I probably can't speak for my sisters because I'm pretty sure they're big bin people, but I will speak for my mum and I. We buy small bins.

Last year it was a source of amusement to my friends who found it extremely funny when they saw the new bins I had bought for my house. Yes, they were small. But they didn't look that small in the shop. They also thought it funny to remind me of mum's small bins in the house I grew up in. It's cruel to make fun of someone's small bins.

Since then I have seen the light. It is a pain in the arse to empty the small kitchen bin every second day. Especially when you have to climb up and down 2 flights of stairs to get to the wheelie bin. But it's never too late to change. From now on I will be a big bin person.
